About Xjuan || Tan Lan Ching
Fine Artist • Illustrator • Art Researcher

A passionate fine artist/Illustrator/art researcher based in Sarawak, Borneo. She's been working hard in experimenting and studying art in diverse form such as painting, digital art, installation art, videography and so forth. She always holds extreme enthusiasm in trying out new things. She gathers much of her inspiration from personal experiences, the environment and cultures around the world.
Even though she creates primarily for herself, her works has been well received by buyers and critics alike. She always believes that challenges offers opportunity to improve and develop. FAYE

An experiment on digital painting by using Photoshop. The reference of the painted portrait retrieved from a music video known as "Dream Person", by a famous female singer, Faye Wong. The artist was inspired by the lyrics and the way on how the director convey the messages.

The artist's very first attempt on studying skin tone of a figure by using Photoshop in order to create realistic outcome.
MEDITATED ROSE
A simple 3D animation moulded by the artist by using MAYA while studying Paranoiac-critical method which invented by the great surrealist, Salvador Dali. The modal of the rose presented in the animation was created based on the original artwork by Dali, known "Meditated Rose".

ARTWORK RECREATING

This is an assignment given while the artist still pursuing her bachelors degree. The students required to imitate a painting in order to study and sharpen the students' painting skill. The original painting of "Mambo-Portrait Elvira Bach" was created by Xenia Hausner in year 2020. The most attractive part that amaze the artist to chose her artwork as her assignment subject was the variety technique that used by Hausner to create her artwork and the strong, radical and contrasting colours to express her ideas and messages.
COMFORT ZONE
"Comfort Zone" is a 3D animation created by the artist by using MAYA. This artwork intended to criticise the community whom always hungry for better lifestyle without having the courage to step out from their own comfort zone. All they do are living their life by doing jobs they do not passionate at. The worse part of these community is some of them tend to express jealousy, complaints and negative comments when they see someone achieved their goal by accepting the challenges that life offers, we can observe this social phenomenon especially on social medias.

The artist loves to do ink sketches by using contour drawing techniques.

DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION
The artist loves to explore through different illustration style. She usually creates illustration by using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
MERCHANDISE DESIGN
A collaboration with local influencer in developing her personal merchandise design. The customer requests her figure design to comes out in anime style. The series of the merchandise includes T-shirt, keychain and tote bag.
